Youth Works

Whitelock Community Farm is hosting a summer youth employment program! We are seeking applicants who live in or near the Whitelock Community. YouthWorkers will work on-site and in the neighborhood, and will take several field trips. The program is designed to introduce youth employees to the work that goes into running the farm and its community programs, and to conversations on food justice, advocacy and community-based education.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has a broad range of responsibilities. As a team member the youth will start seeds, transplant seedlings, turn, cultivate, water and generally manage farm beds, harvest for sales, staff a farm stand and help host a community event. Participants will gain job skills and training and will be encouraged to pursue their own interests in urban agriculture, nutrition and community engagement. Youth will gain a better understanding of green careers and opportunities to be involved in projects that support healthy habits within their community.

 

REQUIREMENTS::

Applicants must:

• be between 14 and 18 years old

• register for Youth Works online before their interview 

• live in the 21217 zip code

• be capable of lifting 50 pounds

• be prepared to work outside (in the heat) from 9am-2pm

 

TIMEFRAME:

This is a Monday through Friday, 25 hour per week position, starting June 26th and ending July 28th. 

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: 

Payment of $9.25/hour will be provided by Baltimore City’s YouthWorks program.
