Community Compost Program
At Whitelock Community Farm, composting is more than just reducing waste—it's a commitment to environmental and community care. Our Community Compost Program helps close the loop between food, soil, and sustainability right here in Reservoir Hill.
🌱 What We Offer:
- A 3-bin compost system that can process up to 1,500 pounds of organic waste every 4 months.

Free kitchen scrap drop-off twice a week:
- Wednesdays, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.
Please note, our drop off schedule may change due to inclement weather and other circumstances. Check your email and our social media up to 2 hours before drop off to stay up-to-date.
- Compost used to nourish the same soil that grows food for our neighbors.
- Opportunities to volunteer, learn, and lead through compost workshops and hands-on farm activities.

No fish, bones, plastics, dairy, or oil.
We’ll help guide you if you’re unsure—everyone is welcome, whether you're new to composting or a seasoned steward.
Meet Our Community Compost Steward: Freda Alvarado-Fanning
Freda is a longtime Reservoir Hill resident, urban gardener, and composting extraordinaire. She leads our compost program with deep care and a commitment to teaching others how to return nutrients to the land. Whether she’s guiding a neighbor through their first drop-off or mentoring youth in soil science, Freda brings both warmth and wisdom to the heart of Whitelock's sustainability work.
Together, we’re turning scraps into soil—and soil into sustenance.
