Herbal Medicine Making 101: Fire Cider for All
Have you ever wondered what useful plants might be growing in your neighborhood or in your own backyard? Would you like to learn how to utilize these plants to create effective herbal remedies for your friends and family? Then join community herbalist, Katelyn Jarkowiec, for the series – Herbal Medicine Making 101.
In these hands-on classes, we’ll get to know the plants growing in and around Whitelock Farm, discuss the art and science behind each medicinal preparation, and then create an herbal remedy together. By the end of the series, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to create your own home apothecary using fresh, local, homegrown, and seasonal herbs.
Fire Cider for All
Fire Cider is an old folk remedy that uses simple, accessible, kitchen ingredients to create a powerful winter wellness remedy! Fire cider can relieve sinus congestion, keep our immune system strong, ward off colds and flus, and increase digestion and circulation. Learn how to make this popular herbal folk remedy as well as other herbal infused vinegars that can be used in beverages, salad dressing, cocktails and more!

Join us for an outdoor yoga class at the farm!
All levels welcome - bring your own mat (we will have a few extra on site)
class taught by certified instructor, Grace Marshall
We will be starting promptly at 11 am, so please arrive a little early to sign in and get set up. This class will take place in the park on the corner of Whitelock & Brookfield, behind the farm stand. It is outdoors, so please come prepared - we suggest bringing your own water bottle & applying sunscreen!
The class will run alongside our Farm Stand, so we will have farm veggies for sale as well.

So what’s a tincture? Learn about these simple, alcohol based herbal extracts and how to create your own using fresh or dried plants. Tinctures are concentrated, easy to take, and effective!

Compost Workshop
From food scraps to nutritious amendments!
In this workshop we will discuss composting basics, worm composting and best practices for building healthy compost.
Class will be led by Sophia Hosain, a graduate of the Institute of Local Self Reliance Compost Program and Montae, from local compost producer Veteran Compost

September Community Potluck Cookout
Bring a dish, a friend or just yourself, and come prepared to try some new foods!
Enjoy some snacks while catching up with neighbors, sharing recipes and checking out what's been growing at the farm. We will be preparing a couple dishes with farm fresh veggies. You are invited to make something too, but it is certainly not required.
We'll be set up in the park across the street from the farm on Whitelock and Brookfield from 6pm-dusk.
This Month we are also joined by Crystal of Holistic Wellness and Health who will be sharing a cooking demo using farm produce and Anita of Baltimore City Master Gardeners of University of Maryland Extension will be there with giveaways & to answer your gardening questions!
Workshop Description: We will create delicious, nutritious, flavorful and affordable meals using fresh produce from Whitelock Community Farm. We will learn more about the Double Dollars Program. All participants of the workshop are eligible to participate in the Double Dollars Program. Recipes and samples will be provided.
Crystal L. Forman is the Owner/Director of Holistic Wellness and Health, a company that uses a whole person approach that integrates health, fitness and wellness. She offers health education courses, healthy cooking classes, cooking demonstrations, health coaching and wellness seminars. Crystal also works to improve food justice, food sovereignty and sustainable food access. She is an avid forager, gardener and volunteer farmer. She loves teaching foraging, wild food cooking and farm to plate activities. In addition to her Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Health Administration (MHA) degrees, Crystal is a certified Permaculture designer, a Certified Baltimore City Master Gardener, and a certified sport nutrition consultant (CSNC).
