Gardening 101 Workshop

Interested in growing your own food? Looking for tips from fellow gardeners?
Come join us at the farm Saturday April 28th from 11am-1pm for a hands-on overview of growing and gardening techniques.

We have invited several experts to share their knowledge and experience. Participants will break up into small groups and rotate through the following info stations: 
Seed Starting & Transplanting
Flowers & Container Gardening
Composting & Worm Composting
Ask a farmer!

Participants take home an info packet & a coupon to our upcoming plant sale!

Have you ever wondered what useful plants might be growing in your neighborhood or in your own backyard? Would you like to learn how to utilize these plants to create effective herbal remedies for your friends and family? Then join community herbalist, Katelyn Jarkowiec, for the series – Herbal Medicine Making 101.

In these hands-on classes, we’ll get to know the plants growing in and around Whitelock Farm, discuss the art and science behind each medicinal preparation, and then create an herbal remedy together. By the end of the series, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to create your own home apothecary using fresh, local, homegrown, and seasonal herbs.

Oils and Salves
Medicinal oils and salves are a great way to apply plant medicine topically. We’ll discuss plants remedies for common ailments such as rashes, cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites, and then make an herbal healing salve together!
Want to take home your very own tin of herbal healing salve?
Be sure to register ahead of time - space is limited!!

*$5 materials fee required for the take home option

Cost: $5-$15 sliding scale, cash + cards accepted

Baltimore Ceasefire 365 asks Baltimore residents to celebrate life, with the ultimate goal of zero murders in our city. Ceasefire weekends intend for residents to:

  • help each other get the resources they need in their lives
  • have conversations with each other about how to handle conflict differently
  • make commitments to one another to be non-violent in thoughts, words, and deeds, for AT LEAST the ceasefire weekend.

Tinctures
So what’s a tincture? Learn about these simple, alcohol based herbal extracts and how to create your own using fresh or dried plants. Tinctures are concentrated, easy to take, and effective!

class taught by certified instructor, Grace Marshall

We will be starting promptly at 11 am, so please arrive a little early to sign in and get set up. This class will take place in the park on the corner of Whitelock & Brookfield, behind the farm stand. It is outdoors, so please come prepared - we suggest bringing your own water bottle & applying sunscreen!

The class will run alongside our Farm Stand, so we will have farm veggies for sale as well.

Join Whitelock Farm & Beth Am Synagogue's in the 7th Annual Greens & Kugel Cook Off at the Whitelock Harvest Festival

The Cook Off is held during our Harvest Festival and will take place on Sunday October 8th 1-3pm

Participants who wish to enter the cook off make their very best dish and provide samples to festival attendees who will then vote for their favorite dish! Some Prizes include $100 cash, Dinner at a local restaurant or farm fresh veggies and a coupon to Whitelock's Farm Stand.

We encourage creative dishes - greens can be any dish using leafy greens, cooked, raw, blended or baked and kugel is traditionally a baked casserole, typically made from egg noodles or potatoes - how will your recipe delight our taste buds?!

Save the date for this awesome event and help us spread the word & reach out to your favorite home chefs! We can't wait to taste these awesome creations!

Preservation Workshop

Interested in canning, pickling, and fermenting?
Want to learn how to make your produce last longer? 
Join us for our Fourth Annual Preservation Workshop from 5:30-7:30 on Thursday August 31st!

This year we've got a great line up of instructors, who will be sharing recipes and resources for making juices, jams, sauces, quick pickles, and ferments!

There will be four demos with samples, two hands-on activities, and a take home instructional booklet with recipes. Each participant will have the opportunity to make and take home a small jar of pickles and kraut. 

$8 or $4 using an EBT card

 In addition to roasting a pig, we have sides and a vegetarian option. Plates cost $10 and may be purchased at the event using cash or card.

There will also be a raffle and a clothing drive!
Raffles prizes include items from Race Pace Bicycles, the Wine Source, Brewers Art, Mend Acupuncture, the Station North Tool Library, and Huckle's Hot Sauce.

The Clothing FUNDrive is part of a partnership with Saver's Thrift Stores.

For every pound of gently used clothing and household items collected, we receive funding! Please help us by contributing any items you're looking to get rid of and by spreading the word!

Donation bags can be brought to the event, or dropped off at the farm leading up to the event. To make arrangements for drop off, please call 410-205-6572.

Join us for an outdoor yoga class at the farm

We will gather at 11:45 am at the park on the corner of Whitelock & Brookfield. 
The class will be outside so please come prepared, we suggest bringing your own water bottle & applying sunscreen!

All levels welcome - bring your own mat (we will have a few extra on site)   
class taught by certified instructor, Kruti Ravaliya

The class will run alongside our Farm Stand, so we will have farm veggies for sale as well.

We will be weeding and mulching around the native plants surrounding the outdoor kitchen and transplanting into the community raised beds.

Please wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting dirty & bring a water bottle. Check the weather and dress appropriately. We will provide gloves, sunblock, tools and will have water on site for refills.

On the first Saturday of every month we will be running a book drive for the little free library box (located in the park on the south corner of Whitelock & Brookfield) 

We will be collecting book donations alongside our Farm Stand. Books can be for all ages, of all genres and new or used! Come on out  - bring some books, get some veggies and maybe even find a new read! 

The library is open to the public and we are always looking for book donations for neighbors of all ages. Feel free to contribute to the box at any time!

We will be weeding and prepping farm beds for their second planting of the season, and redefining our pathways at the farm by laying woodchips. This activity will involve using hand tools and a broadfork to clear and aerate the soil. We will reference our composting system and methods for building healthy soil.
